"Dear Valentine... "

It's Valentine's Day. What better time to combine my warped sense of humor with some really bad poetry? Here are some rhymes written from the point of view of a modern horsewoman:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Valentine,
You won my heart
When I saw you pushing
That full muck cart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Roses are red,
Alfalfa is green.
Buy me a truck
And make me your queen.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Woo me with wine,
Treat me with candy.
But around the barn
Are you truly handy?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I know you're not a cowboy
But I love you still
Because you didn't faint
When you saw the feed store bill.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are my one true Valentine
(I knew it from the start)
Because you weren't just handsome
You were also very smart.
You never made the error
(A dangerous one, of course)
Of asking me to choose between
You or my dear horse.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Have a happy Valentine's Day! And if you find yourself overrun with those candy hearts, give a handful to your favorite horse.

Thats awesome.

I knew you were for me,
When you didn't scaddle,
Even though instead of roses,
I bought you a saddle.

Ha, thats really bad,but it just shows how horrible I am at poetry.

I'm not even going to try and write a poem. I don't have a sense of rhyme so it might just turn out something like:

Birdy birdy in the sky
Why did you poo poo in my eye?
I'm glad cows don't fly
Birdy birdy in the sky

....I didn't write that one. My grandpa did.

Ahem. I'll stop.

Happy V's day! (My dad calls it VD and every time he does so I start laughing, it makes me think of Veneral Disease)

The only reason I can churn out poetry-- bad as it is-- is because I was an English Lit. major in college. I was forced into taking several upper level courses in poetry. And since I'm so silly, you can probably guess that the poetry I wrote was NOT serious in tone, LOL!

I know I'm late, but I just discovered your blog after adoring your column in HI. So, here's my rhyme:

When I looked into your eyes
I knew you were for me.
When you adored my horsey
I knew it was true, for you tell no lies.
So now, my dear darlin',
Will you be my Valentin'?

It's not exactly Browning, but it works, all except the last part.
